How to use the word searches
Independent work, not a game to be refereed.
- 1
Read the word list first
Have the child read the list aloud before they start hunting. This is where most of the reading practice happens.
- 2
Find and circle
Cross each word off the list as it is found so nothing is hunted twice.
- 3
Read it back
When the grid is clear, read every circled word once more.
- 4
Check against the key
Let the child do the checking. Finding one they missed is worth more than being told.
What's in the PDF
14 × 14 letter grids
Large enough for 10 words with room to hide them, small enough that the letters stay big and readable.
Enough puzzles for the whole list
Words are dealt out 10 to a puzzle, so a level of 40 words comes as four separate pages.
An answer key for every puzzle
Printed after the puzzles, so a child can check their own work without turning straight to it.
Download word search for any list
Generated for all 16 Dolch levels and Fry sets. Every file is a print-ready PDF.

Hide the word list
